WOMEN’s EMPOWERMENT Poultry PROGRAM
The MEDA-USA Women’s Empowerment Poultry Program is a MEDA-USA sponsored initiative under the for the Moghamo woman and to a larger extent, all Moghamoans. This is in keeping with our goal to establish a network with Moghamo authorities, groups and development Associations operating in Moghamo and to initiate and/or support Programs that are solid, self-sustaining and with an immediate short term impact on the lives of Moghamoans. It is part of a renewable Five million Francs (5,000,000 CFA) contract between MEDA-USA and MOWOCUDA (the Moghamo Women Cultural and Development Association) evenly, conveniently and strategically spread over a 5-year period, to cover all MEDA-USA Women empowerment initiatives. The Poultry Project is in support of PHASE 8 (ANIMAL HUSBANDRY) of the MOWOCUDA project plan. This Project to be lunched in October 2005 or earlier will not only train women on how to raise superior breeds of birds but will also familiarize them with modern methods of animal breeding, accounting, advertisement and marketing of the end products. The use of poultry by-products for other agricultural programs is also going to be of huge benefit. The Poultry Project will be executed and funded in phases defined by the attainment of performance markers expressed in the contract. It is envisioned that the Poultry Project will be self-sustaining and will expand to at least two other villages in Moghamo based on the women demographics.
