Scheme of work

In an approach which seeks to build a framework for analysing, evaluating, monitoring, and closing MEDA projects, this outline of questions, issues and ideas will enable us to develop standards against which MEDA makes decisions on project selection, funding, monitoring and project reporting. After analysing all these issues, a strategy document will be formulated to ensure consistency, transparency and efficiency. We shall go through all of these issues and try to find answers to them during our phone conferences, and in consulation with subject matter experts.
Although this is a private work space, only for MEDA project committee members, and interested Moghamoans, when the MEDA website goes live, content from this work space shall be used to populate the Projects section of the Web site.

Developing a Project Management strategy for MEDA-USA

  1. Define scope of Projects covered by MEDA-USA: There shall be a documentation of the type of Projects that are sponsored or supported by MEDA USA.
  • Areas: Health, Water supply, Education?
  • Types: Community oriented as Opposed to individual benefit projects?
  • Geographical scope: Moghamo/ Moghamo community outside Moghamo?
  1. Develop a Process on how to apply for sponsorship from MEDA
  • Develop application formats
  • Develop application forms
  • Define time of year when applications are received, analyzed, and funds awarded
  • Define where applications will be sent.
  1. Develop a Process for how MEDA generates a project
  • Who will be responsible for a project led by MEDA and not the community?
  • What will be the decision process before it is sponsored?
  1. Develop a strategy and a matrix for evaluating projects for sponsorship in line with sustainable development goals and MEDA priorities
  • Community participation
  • Community involvement
  • Community Organization
  • Available funds
  • MEDA priority
  • Feasibility
  1. Develop a monitoring plan and strategy for MEDA projects
  • Plans to Support, verify and report on each Project phase.
  • Plans for periodical payment of funds to project account when each project phase is completed.
  1. Project Closing: What shall be done when a project is completed:
  • Who shall be designated to run the project after MEDA has completed implementation.
  • What is the hand over procedure?
  • Requirements for End of Project report, including financial statement and analysis of costs and benefits.
  1. Develop a Projects directory
  • Create a Database of all Completed MEDA USA Projects, with small write-ups on the goals and achievements of the project.
  1. External funding and Project donations:
  • What will be the process for presenting MEDA project proposals to external organizations for funding
  • How can MEDA channel donations from the Public to a particular Project
  • What procedure does MEDA have in place or hopes to have for managing material donations
  • MEDA shall define what sort of material donations it is willing to accept: Medical supplies?, Books? Special equipment? (Is it profitable to accept donations of bulky materials whose cost of shipment may exceed their actual value? ; Old computers, cars, furniture, electronics etc?
  • How will MEDA channel Material donations to particular Projects

WOMEN’s EMPOWERMENT Poultry PROGRAM

The MEDA-USA Women’s Empowerment Poultry Program is a MEDA-USA sponsored initiative under the for the Moghamo woman and to a larger extent, all Moghamoans. This is in keeping with our goal to establish a network with Moghamo authorities, groups and development Associations operating in Moghamo and to initiate and/or support Programs that are solid, self-sustaining and with an immediate short term impact on the lives of Moghamoans. It is part of a renewable Five million Francs (5,000,000 CFA) contract between MEDA-USA and MOWOCUDA (the Moghamo Women Cultural and Development Association) evenly, conveniently and strategically spread over a 5-year period, to cover all MEDA-USA Women empowerment initiatives. The Poultry Project is in support of PHASE 8 (ANIMAL HUSBANDRY) of the MOWOCUDA project plan. This Project to be lunched in October 2005 or earlier will not only train women on how to raise superior breeds of birds but will also familiarize them with modern methods of animal breeding, accounting, advertisement and marketing of the end products. The use of poultry by-products for other agricultural programs is also going to be of huge benefit. The Poultry Project will be executed and funded in phases defined by the attainment of performance markers expressed in the contract. It is envisioned that the Poultry Project will be self-sustaining and will expand to at least two other villages in Moghamo based on the women demographics.
